SEYCHELLES
This series of oil paintings evolved after my first visit to Seychelles with my wife who was born there but moved away with her family when she was still a baby. The paintings tell her story of returning to the family island and her search for land that she had never seen. The paintings reflect the mixed emotions of home and belonging and the sadness of sacrifice that one generation will experience in order to provide the next generation greater opportunities.
Executed from memory, the paintings are of an ancient land of magic and mystery. They capture a colour palette unique to Seychelles, where paths appear as rivers of light, palm jungles grow to a Jurassic size and ancient granite peaks rise from crystal clear coral atolls.
