LAND SEA SKY are the physical and metaphorical elements central to Robert’s paintings, which explore home, belonging, and our presence in the landscape.
LAND manifests itself as the physical presence of place, home, stability, as well as experience and memory.
SEA represents the constant waves of good and bad, the chaos of conflict and confusion, the vastness of insignificance, and what may lie beyond an uncertain horizon.
SKY, for Robert, represents the freedom we desire; he uses weather, clouds and atmospheric light to determine mood and emotion.
The paintings showing in LAND SEA SKY invite viewers to relish the depths of nature’s beauty. They encourage us to wander with no fixed destination and immerse the body and soul in nature—be it a forest, an ocean, a park or just the garden. By removing the comfort of textile layers and venturing onto a less-trodden path, we can seek a restorative sense of freedom, while igniting a sense of wonder and contemplation.
